From a medieval foundation and with a Manueline campaign, the Church of Santo António is today a post-earthquake monument, built between 1767 and 1787, according to the project of Mateus Vicente de Oliveira. The final product combines disparate elements such as the vestibule, still affiliated with the Johannine baroque, and the rococo cartela on the south façade. The church is a single nave with a cradle vault cover and abundant use of marbles.
The Church of St. Anthony is classified as a National Monument, and it is popularly known, too, for the many flower arrangements left by the bride and groom on the day of the wedding, in order to bless it.
The Church of Santo António is one of the religious landmarks of the city of Lisbon, because it is located in the place where it is said to have lived Santo António, its name Fernando de Bulhão, the patron saint of Lisbon, there is also an annex, a museum that celebrates the Holy One.
