Fort Breendonk, Belgium, was a concentration and deportation camp during World War II.

Located about 20 km south of Antwerp, close to Willebroek and Mechelen, it is located close to the railway line that connects Antwerp to Brussels.

This fortification, which dates back to 1906, was used by the SS to register, screen and deport prisoners there. The first records of prisoners date back to September 20, 1940, and at least 3532 prisoners will have passed through September 1944.

The prisoners were in the custody of SS officers. From 1941, Flemish S.S. also joined the guard service. The low number of prisoners in the camp - around 300 at any given time - made them a constant target of attention and torture by the guards.

Nowadays it is a Museum and Memorial of the deportation. It is also one of 22 fields whose name is engraved on the floor of the memorial crypt in Yad Vashem, Jerusalem.
